First task: owner account and recovery code

Until an owner account is created, anyone who sits at this computer can open the panel.

  1. In the panel menu, open the Security page.
  2. In the Panel login card: enter a username, a display name and a password, then click Create the owner account and turn the login on. The password must be at least 10 characters. A short sentence that only you know works best.
  3. In the Recovery code card: click Make a recovery code, then print the code or keep it in a password manager. Type it once, then click I saved the code.
Do not keep the recovery code on this computer. If the computer breaks or Windows is reinstalled, this code is the only way to open your backups on another computer.

For colleagues, use the Add a colleague card to create separate accounts with limited access. Each colleague sets their own password the first time they sign in.
